The role of designers is changing rapidly in the AI era

The ground is moving beneath our feet: With AI increasingly generating everything from copy to code to complete interfaces,
what’s left for designers and agencies?

This isn’t the end of professional design though, it’s an evolution. Here’s why:

🤝 Our (new) job? Empower, not just execute.
Clients will eventually do more themselves – I’d say: Great!
Our role? To guide, refine, and align their DIY momentum with real user needs and strategic goals.
Think: Strategic validator (Is this solution actually right?) meets quality guardian (Does this meet professional standards?) meets AI sherpa (How can tools augment vs replace thinking?)

🔍 Judgment is the new superpower.
When anyone can generate a logo, wireframe, or prototype in seconds, our decade-long experience in evaluation becomes priceless: Which idea will resonate with users? When to break conventions? Why does this solution truly fit the context (or not)? How does this align with business goals? That’s where experience matters.

🌪 Filtering noise becomes critical.
With infinite »knowledge« at our fingertips, discerning useful from superficial – or truth from hallucination– is the next frontier.
There will always be areas that cannot be replaced by AI. It is our job to identify these areas and fill them with our craftsmanship.
This involves even more consulting than before, and sometimes even advising customers against their own ideas.

🚀 This isn’t a threat, it’s a leap forward.
Yes, the tools are democratizing. But when AI handles the "how," we’re freed to focus on the "why" and "what’s next." The future of design isn’t just making things, it’s shaping better things.
Let’s lead rather than react to the change! Develop new hybrid skills (experience + new tech, deliver strategic value beyond execution and use AI to augment your thinking,
rather than replacing it.

💡 This transformation isn't unique to design
The same applies to developers, strategists, and other disciplines: Those who don't embrace AI tools risk being left behind as others adopt them to work smarter.
Let's not see AI as something that will make us all dumber, but as an opportunity to grow beyond the status quo.

As a design agency, we see it as our mission to lead this transformation. When clients can do more themselves, it doesn't scare me – it excites me. Because it pushes us to develop new skills and deliver value beyond execution.

How do you see AI reshaping your creative process?
