Since I decided to make my master’s thesis freely available about a year ago, over 350 people have actually read through over 8000 pages of it solely on my website (sometimes even for hours) 🤯
In addition, there are countless reads on Google Books, Scholar, Sci-Hub and my university's library website. At least two bachelor theses (that I know of) build on my work. I was grateful to be invited by DIE ZEIT to speak about it within their Festival of Young Visionaries. Also, there are numerous discussion posts on the internet that reference my work.
I am totally blown away and extremely happy about all of that!
To me this is more than just an enormous appreciation of my work towards more sustainable urban mobility and design as an instrument to transform society. It is a strong sign for free science. I am convinced that research that was made possible with public funding should also be available to the general public.
Even if you think it doesn't matter: Please consider sharing your work and findings with the world. This way we can all benefit – knowledge only becomes greater by sharing!
